LEONARD C. JENKINS B.A., M.D., C.M., F.R.C.P.(C)1 and GUY SCREECH M.A., M.B., B.CHIR.1

1 Department of Surgery, Sub-section Anaesthesiology, Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine

The basic physiology of Central Venous Pressure (C.V.P.) is reviewed. A technique of measuring C.V.P. is outlined. Five illustrative case summaries are reviewed, underlining basic physio-pathological concepts of C.V.P. in man. The usefulness of C.V.P. monitoring to the anaesthetist is summarized. Some problems and difficulties associated with C.V.P. monitoring are mentioned.

Presented at the Canadian Anaesthetists' Society Annual Meeting, Banff, Alberta, June 1966.
