Recent work with the adrenergic blocking drugs has made it possible to block the alpha and beta effects of the catecholamines in phaeochromocytoma. This permits much wider latitude in the choice of anaesthetic techniques and agents. Four patients are presented in which these drugs were used pre-operatively and during operation in combination with halothane for the management of anaesthesia.
