Recent Upper Respiratory Infection and Pulmonary Artery Clamping in the Aetiology of Postoperative Respiratory Complications

A retrospective study of 56 children who underwent intrathoracic vascular surgery indicated a significantly increased incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications in those with a recent history of upper respiratory tract infection. No correlation was found between occlusion of a branch of the pulmonary artery for a mean period of 35.3 minutes and the incidence of pulmonary complications.
