A technique of anaesthesia for the correction of congenital heart defects is described. Premedicatien with chlorpromazine, promethazme HCl, and demerol is followed by induction with sodium pentothal and maintenance of anaesthesia with nitrous oxide, oxygen, and the depolarizing relaxants. A moderate degree of hypothermia is recommended for all cyanotic and debilitated patients. The more common complications are described, and reliance on calcium chloride and atropme in their treatment is emphasized.
