An Attempt to Correlate the Clinical Signs of Fluothane Anaesthesia with the Electroencephalographic Levels

An attempt was made to present the electroencephalographic patterns of Fluothane anaesthesia and to correlate these patterns with the clinical signs of anaesthesia. This could not be done as there were no reliable clinical signs present. The lower electroencephalographic patterns presented are open to question, as the profound circulatory collapse which always occurred at these levels may have influenced them. A high incidence of dangerous cardiac arrhythmias were noted. Respiratory depression was prominent. The authors believe that Fluothane is a myocardial depressant resembling chloroform. We suggest that Fluothane should not be made available for general distribution until safe proven methods of administration are developed.
