ELLEN BLATCHFORD M.B.1 and HILDA ROBERTS F.F.A.R.C.S.1

1 Department of Anaesthesia, Women's College Hospital, Toronto, Ontario

A short survey of 211 patients receiving intravenous trifluoperazine for postoperative nausea and vomiting has been described. The types of operative procedures and anaesthetics used have been recorded. The treatment was given in the recovery room and also on the floor within the first 48 hours after operation and on the first appearance of the symptoms. The number of doses and the total amount of the drug given to patients have been set out. The response to the treatment has been divided into three groups, i.e., good—171; fair—24; poor—16. The associated side-effects have been described and conclusions drawn from the over-all observations.
